Vegan Entrees
We are very excited to be offering parents the option to pre-order scratch-made Vegan Entrees for their students at all of our Elementary and Middle schools. In addition to being vegan, these entrees are also free of the top 8 allergens (milk, egg, peanut, tree nut, fish, shellfish, soy, and wheat). Meals need to be ordered by 10:00 pm on Wednesday for the following week. We will then send the meal to your student's school labeled with their name and have it waiting for them at lunch. Additionally, we are offering hummus and chips daily which are also vegan and free of the top 8 allergens.
We are also offering vegan burgers upon request at the high schools. Students just need to scan the QR code in the cafeteria by the end of Snack and we will have a Veggie Burger waiting for them at the Burger Line!
Lactose Free Milk
Lactose free milk will now be an additional milk option along with
non-fat chocolate and low-fat white milk.
Universal Meal Program
Beginning in School Year (SY) 2023–24, the state of California will implement a statewide Universal Meals Program for all school children. California’s Universal Meals Program is designed to build on the foundations of the federal National School Lunch Program (NSLP) and School Breakfast Program (SBP). ABC Unified School District will begin to serve both a nutritiously adequate breakfast and lunch to all students free of charge for the 2023-2024 School Year.
ABC Unified School District now has 27 out of 29 schools participating in The Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) program. CEP allows schools and districts to serve breakfast and lunch at no cost to all enrolled students without collecting meal applications. Therefore, all schools (except Cerritos High School and Whitney High School) are not required to submit a meal application for the 2023-24 School Year.
**Note: Cerritos High School and Whitney High school do not qualify for the CEP program, so all families with students enrolled at CHS and WHS are encouraged to complete a meal application.
Meals, foods, and beverages sold or served at schools meet state and federal requirements which are based on the USDA Dietary Guidelines. We provide students with access to a variety of affordable and appealing foods that meet the health and nutrition needs of students.
